The Volcano That Caught a Shooting Star

Sometimes nature hands you a once‑in‑a‑lifetime shot—and sometimes it practically aims the camera for you. While photographing Indonesia’s hyperactive Mount Merapi, Gunarto Song captured a long‑exposure meteor streaking perfectly toward the crater. The meteor almost certainly passed behind the mountain, but the timing, angle, and pure luck made the photo look like sci‑fi made real. Right place, right time, right volcano.

Birds Are Tired of Our Nonsense

Humans have gotten so loud that even birds are tapping out. A new review shows our traffic, drills, and general inability to shut up are wrecking their dating lives, stressing them out, and ruining their ability to parent—basically the same effect your upstairs neighbor has on you. Some birds yell louder, some just bail, but all of them wish we’d chill.

Romans Used To Rub Sh*t On Themselves

No really, they did. I mean actual feces. Archaeologists in Türkiye found a Roman glass bottle still lined with chemical traces of human feces, confirming that ancient Romans were smearing the stuff on themselves as “treatment.” They even added thyme to mask the stench—history’s first scented crap. The Romans were basically rubbing disease onto disease and calling it healthcare. Respect the hustle, though.
